The First Joyful Mystery: THE ANNUNCIATION

Read: Is. 7: 10-16 Heb. 10: 4-10 Lk. 1: 26-38

Pray the OUR FATHER (with devotion)

"‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy offspring to be born will be called Son of God....’ Mary said: ‘I am the maidservant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say.’" (Lk. 1:35, 38)

The word "YES" will never be the same since that day when a young, holy, humble and obedient girl named MARY said "I am the maidservant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say."

Mary was a girl much like all the young girls in her day. She enjoyed dreaming of her impending marriage to Joseph, her betrothed fiance and of living out a NORMAL life... like all the other girls. A life dedicated to God, family and the traditions of her race.

Yet God singled out this girl from all time to be the Mother of His only Son, Jesus Christ. Since before she was born, she was immaculately conceived in order to be a spotless vessel, her soul free from the stain of Original Sin. Thus, when the angel said: "Rejoice, O highly favored daughter! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women," these were no words of exaggeration or of flattery. The angel was telling her... and US... that Mary had and has a special place of favor with God.

God does not forget His words, nor does He use us as prophetic "throw aways." He is faithful to His promise to Israel, to us in the New Covenant... and He is faithful to a relationship that can NEVER be negated... the relationship of MOTHER TO CHILD. How intimate and beautiful. Let us pray the following HAIL MARYs contemplating on Mary’s "YES"—It has forever changed the world.... Your "YES" can too!

Pray ten HAIL MARYs (with devotion while meditating upon the mystery of Our Divine Lord)

Pray: GLORY BE TO THE FATHER AND TO THE SON AND TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, IS NOW, AND EVER SHALL BE, WORLD WITHOUT END. AMEN.

Our Prayer: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. AMEN.
