Read: Ex. 14:5-8 Mt.12:38-42

Opening Prayer

"Teacher, we want to see you work some signs." He answered: "An evil and unfaithful age is eager for a sign! No sign will be given it but that of the prophet Jonah..." (Mt. 12:38-39)

I am amazed at times by all the stories I hear about apparitions, doomsday prophesies and groups whose leader claims to be the messiah.

I am equally amazed at the power of some theologians who speak at some conference and make some wayward claims against the divinity of Jesus or some other speculative "teaching", and instantly gain a following. These followers in turn teach the same misguided ideas to others.

"Be on guard, let no one mislead you. Many will come attempting to impersonate me. ‘I am the Messiah!’ they will claim, and they will deceive many." (Mt.24:4-6)

The Magisterium (the teaching authority of the Church) is often ignored, or worse, ridiculed by many who claim to be "Catholic."

"False prophets will rise in great numbers to mislead many. The man who holds out to the end is the one who will see salvation. This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a witness to all the nations. Only after that will the end come." (Mt. 24:11-14)

Jesus made it very clear that the only true sign that we will be given is the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Son of Man. No other sign, twisting of doctrines or fancy words will ever take the place of Jesus Christ as He comes to us in the Gospels presented by our Holy Mother, the Church.

Reflection and commentary

Psalm 62:7 "God alone is my rock and my salvation, my secure height; I shall not fall."
