Read: Ex. 3:11-20 Mt. 11:28-30

Opening Prayer

"Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you." (Mt. 11:28)

Our modern world can be characterized by the huge amount of stress that ordinary people experience. We are awash in formulas, vitamins, drugs and meditations to relieve stress. Sometimes they even work.

But the main cause of stress, grief, anguish and pain is sin, and the crying out of our own conscience for relief.

Sin is understood as a violation of the moral order established by God for His rational creatures — human beings. With this violation comes a break in our relationship with the Lord. In order to be stress free, we must live in balance -- physically, materially, spiritually and morally.

In the battle for survival, without water or food, or too much heat or cold, we cannot survive. At best, we suffer. In the spiritual battle, we are bombarded by strong moral and spiritual tensions.

To have a true spiritual balance is to accept and recognize the singular love of God for us... and to try to adjust our lives to merit that incredible love always.

Whoever you are, if you feel excess tension, go before the Lord, humbly reflecting on your life. Then go to Confession in sincerity and confess all of your sins... especially the ones you’re most embarrassed about. For great sins, there are great cures!

"Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light." (29-30)

Reflection and commentary
