July 14, 2008, Monday Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Read: Is. 1: 10-17 Mt. 10: 34-11: 1 "Whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple -- amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward." (Mt. 10:40,42) It is almost impossible to love God completely and unconditionally as we should. Yet the mind and heart are starving for the truth and the goodness in which we will rejoice... only God can satiate that powerful hunger. God repays the faithfulness of the love that we profess in a way that rises above all inequality: "Whoever gives only a cup of cold water... will surely not lose his reward." God receives and accepts as an extraordinary way of showing our love for Him, our reception of one of His chosen and sent, His ministers and representatives... as though we were accepting God Himself. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me." "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." (Mt. 25:40) Every person is a representative of God before all -- those who serve and are served! "The man who hates his brother is in darkness. He walks in shadows, not knowing where he is going, since the dark has blinded his eyes." (1 Jn. 2:11) Reflection and commentary Psalm 31: "Blessed be the LORD, who has shown me wondrous love. Yet you heard my plea, when I cried out to you." Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, d. 1680, at Caughnawaga, Quebec, at 24 years old; led a life of great austerity and love; called "Lily of the Mohawks"; first Native American to be declared "blessed". |
